Students primarily benefit from exposure to the vast range of career options available through further study in areas of science, engineering, technology and maths (STEM). Through participation in workshops, demonstrations and activities with industry professionals students gain insight into the various job roles open to them and get excited about the new directions their studies could take them in.
What happens on a typical career day?
We have found a carrousel like layout to events works well and allows the students and industry representatives the most valuable experience. Small groups of students are led through a workshop or demonstration by representatives from one area of the science and engineering. The students see some interesting aspects of the representatives careers and are encouraged to ask lots of questions to get a real feel for the subject. Students then move onto the next workshop and so on.
