Nuffild Foundation Bursaries

Information for Students

Would you like the chance to gain first hand experience of STEM in a working environment; an opportunity to use the knowledge gained in school in a real context; insight into current research and development; and the chance to make a contribution to the work of your host organisation?

If you're a student in the first year of an advanced or higher-level science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) course (such as A Levels), you could join a project for 4 to 6 weeks in an area of STEM that interests you.

You'll receive a bursary of £80 a week to help you make the most of your experience. You'll get an insight into the world of STEM research and development and be highly valued by future employers and University admissions staff.

Working as part of a team, you'll take the initiative on projects that make a difference, write a project report and receive a certificate of achievement.

Demand for bursaries will be high so we advise you to apply early.

Taking part in nuffield will give you a greater awareness of possible career opportunities; the chance to meet professional and graduate engineers, scientists, mathematicians and technologists; something to talk about at university interviews; and experience of teamwork, interviews, presentations, and writing reports.

What's more, Nuffield placements will help you develop personally as well as professionally and give you an opportunity to meet students from a variety of schools, colleges and backgrounds.

Many Nuffield students also apply for a British Science Association Crest Award at Gold level, giving them the opportunity to show off their work at national and international science fairs and win some great prizes, meet some celebrities, win cash, exciting trips, fame, fortune... you get the idea.
